Manchester City and Spain midfielder, Rodrigo Hernandez has been named Men’s player of the year in the 2024 Balon D’or award ceremony which took place last night in Paris Monday 28th October,2024.

The Spaniard now joins the league of great players to have won this most coveted individual award ever in world football.

This recent milestone is a testament to Rodri’s outstanding performances for club and country in the 2023/2024 season.

Rodri overcame competition from Real Madrid duo of Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham who finished second and third respectively in the rankings.

Rodri’s outstanding performances last season made him a top contender for the prize. He played a crucial role as City won it’s fourth successive Premier league title, also won the Uefa Super cup, Fifa Club World Cup, and the Euro 2024 in the summer hosted by Germany. He was named Player of the tournament in Euro 2024 and won the Golden ball at the Club world cup. A truly remarkable season for the Spaniard.

Other winners at the Balon d’or ceremony include Barcelona and Spain wonder kid Lamine Yamal who won the Kopa Trophy (the best player under the age of 20) fondly known as Golden boy. Barcelona Femini player Aitana Bonmati won the women’s Balon d’or for the second year running, Aston Villa Goal keeper, Emiliano Martinez won the Yashine trophy(best goalkeeper), Carlo Ancelloti won the men’s coach of the year, while Real Madrid was named men’s club of the year among others.
