A 200-level Accounting student, Evans Godstime, is fighting for her life after suffering complications from a recent surgical procedure. Godstime was diagnosed with cysts surrounding her right kidney, and on 14 November 2024, a surgical procedure was performed to remove the kidney at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
However, a few weeks after the procedure, Godstime began experiencing severe pain in her abdomen, which later spread to other parts of her body. On 25 December 2024, she was rushed back to UBTH, where doctors confirmed that the cancer had spread to her liver.
Her sister, Evans Godswill, in an interview with a correspondent of ACJ UNIBEN, confirmed that Godstime had been transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and is currently in critical condition, requiring intensive care and treatment.
“She’s being stabilised,” Godswill explained. “They are administering drips, antibiotics, vitamins, proteins, blood, and oxygen to keep her stable.”
Godstime is scheduled to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy once her condition improves. At present, she has an outstanding bill of ₦247,000 for scans and blood tests. The Students’ Union Government (SUG), in a memo released on Friday, 24 January 2025, expressed deep concern over her condition and called for donations to support her medical treatment and care.
