On May 9th, the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the University of Benin celebrated a major milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its proposed student lounge — a project aimed at enhancing the overall student experience.
The event was attended by key members of the faculty administration, including the Dean, Professor Raphael, and several Heads of Departments. Executives of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences Students’ Association (FESSA), along with a large number of students, were also present. The ceremony highlighted a shared commitment to building a student-friendly environment that supports academic success and social interaction.
The proposed lounge, which will include eight 3-seater chairs, is to be located at the center of the faculty building — a spot student leaders have described as “the heart of the faculty.”
Speaking at the event, the FESSA President, Hon. Comrade Shedrack Ehiguese, emphasized the project’s significance and impact.
“This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a vibrant hub for intellectual discourse and creativity,” he said. “It will provide a comfortable and inclusive space for students to flourish, innovate, and reach their full potential.”
He further reaffirmed FESSA’s dedication to student-focused development, stating that the lounge is a testament to their commitment to improving campus life.
“We envision a space that fosters collaboration, creativity, and mutual support — a place where students can thrive and create lasting memories,” he added.
The initiative has been warmly received and is expected to significantly boost student engagement within the faculty.
