The Academic Privileges and Award Committee (APAC) has rejected the nullification of its leadership and suspension of activities by the President of the Faculty of Law, Comr. Evidence Osarumwense Aiwekhoe.
According to the memo released on February 11, 2025, signed by the Acting Chairman of the committee, Osaretin Egharevba, it was stated that “the leadership was duly appointed in accordance with the provisions of the LAWSA Constitution (as amended in 2018)” and therefore, the basis for the APAC leadership nullification is not founded.
The Chairman argued that the President’s decision as regards the membership of the committee was unconstitutional as the membership is permanent.
“Our constitution is clear that the membership of APAC is of a permanent nature as is duly provided for in Section 30(3) of LAWSA Comstitution (as amended 2018. We can not accept such a situation where the President has the discretion to remove members at will, as this would be a blatant disregard for the constitution”
The Chairman demands that the President reconsider his decision and respect the Faculty’s constitution regarding student associations.
The Chairman also established that APAC will continue its activities unless a court order directs otherwise and reserves the right to “seek legal redress if necessary.”
