US President Donald Trump has slapped a 15% tax on African countries such as Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Mauritius, Ghana, Malawi, Lesotho, and Madagascar.

A statement made by the White House on Thursday provided this information. According to the Executive Order titled “Further Modifying the Reciprocal Tariff Rates,” these changes will apply to products taken out of warehouses or entered for consumption on or after 12:01 a.m.

Furthermore, the United States imposed various levies on Tunisia (25%), Libya (30%), and South Africa (30%). Japan (15%), India (25%), the United Kingdom (10%), and other countries were featured on the list of levies.

Recall that the United States announced in an Executive Order on April 2, 2025, that it would levy import charges on countries around the world, including Nigeria. The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise investigated how President Trump’s tariffs will affect the Nigerian economy.
