On October 12, 2023, Comrade Nmoye Israel, the President of the University of Benin Student Union Government (SUG), has achieved a remarkable feat, leading a team of intellectuals through an interview session with the International Accreditation Center at the University of Benin. This endeavor is poised to establish UNIBEN as the first university in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to attain international accreditation, a milestone that will enhance the institution’s global reputation.
Popularly known as “Cyano,” the SUG President assembled a ten-member committee in May 2023, following the directives of the University Quality Assurance Board. Their mission was to present a comprehensive article from a student’s perspective on the University of Benin, which was subsequently submitted to the World International Accreditation Board.
This academic journey, which commenced five months ago, reached its culmination when the international accreditation team visited the University of Benin to conduct an interview with the committee of intellectuals. The committee’s performance was nothing short of excellent. In the words of the SUG President, “This is the intellectualism I promised the students of the University of Benin when I took the oath of office as their president to represent their intellectual interests. My team and I, as the leaders of the student body, will be remembered in history for this momentous achievement, and we owe it to the glory of God and the legacy of our institution.”
He continued, “I extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to our Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, and the entire management of the University of Benin for their outstanding achievements thus far. This is just the beginning of something great, and we are ready to face whatever the future holds.”
