The Registrar of the University of Benin has expressed concern over the continued refusal of some staff to comply with recent posting directives, despite a memo issued on 17th April 2024 addressing similar cases.

According to the memo, certain staff have sought approval from their Heads of Department and Units to embark on annual leave immediately after being redeployed, a practice seen as a tactic to evade reporting to their new duty posts.

The communiqué described this behaviour as a violation of the Regulations Governing the Service of Senior Staff of the University, revised and approved by the Governing Council on 2nd February 2017. It classified such actions as gross misconduct, citing Chapter 12, Section 4(c) of the regulations, which prohibits disobedience of lawful and reasonable orders, including refusal to accept posting.

All affected staff have been directed to report to their new duty stations without delay. The memo also warned Heads of Department and Units against granting leave to recently posted staff, adding that failure to comply would attract stiffer disciplinary measures.
