The University Of Benin (UNIBEN) has on April 30th, 2025, announced the appointment of Professor Gabriel Arishe as the new university Orator. The appointment approved by the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Edoba Omoregie SAN, will take effect from May 2, 2025, and will last for a period of one year.
Professor Gabriel Arishe is a distinguished scholar in constitutional law and legal Theory, the formal Head of Department Of Public Law at UNIBEN, professor Arishe is a consultant to several international organisations contributing to effort aimed at promoting judicial independence and access to justice in Africa. He is currently serving as the Director of (SERVICOM)Directorate in the Vice chancellor’s Office, Professor Arishe indeed brings a rich experience and a reputation for excellence to his new office as University Orator.

The announcement was made on April 30, 2025, and was signed by the university’s PRO, Dr Benedicta Ehanire. The University Orator is responsible for delivering formal addresses and citations at university ceremonies, as well as convocations and other official events.
