In a recent surge of complaints from residents of Hall 5 and surrounding hostels, a growing issue of the difficulty faced in securing reasonably priced cab rides to their various hostels, has come to light.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted a distressing incident where a cab driver insisted on a whopping 500 naira fare from Buka to Hall 5 and suggested that she should find another cab if she couldn’t pay such an amount.
Another resident shared a similar experience, stating that a cab driver charged her and her friends 200 naira for a ride to their hostel. While not as extreme as the 500 naira demand, this still surpassed what many consider reasonable for the distance covered, as it was from the old pharmacy to Hall 6.
Another resident stated the stress in getting cab rides as most of them would refuse to go, and those who managed to drop them off at their respective destinations would charge abnormal amounts.
According to a cab driver, the reason for avoiding Hall 6 and other hostels around the area is the difficulty in finding passengers for the return journey.
The grievances expressed by these students shed light on the challenges faced by those relying on cabs for their daily classes. To address this issue promptly, ensuring the safety and fair treatment of students seeking transportation services, residents in Hall 5 and other hostels surrounding the area need attention.
