On the eve of the looming protest, we bear sad news. The legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu has passed away. After performing at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli, she was said to have collapsed and then died on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos.
An eyewitness declared that it was sad as Onyeka Onwenu had just performed at the birthday of Mrs Stella Okoli on Tuesday, 30th July 2024. After performing, she collapsed and was taken to Reddington Hospital, where she couldn’t be saved. Her family is yet to release the official time of her passing. We join our hearts with theirs and mourn a national star. She was a former chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture, and in 2013 she was appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.
She was the youngest daughter of Nigerian educationist and politician D. K. Onwenu, who died when she was four years old in a car crash a week before his appointment as Minister for Education. Onyeka Onwenu will be remembered for her magnetic energy, her classical albums, and her passion for politics and activism. Her many achievements will be remembered by all, and her memory will live fondly in our hearts.
Rest in paradise, Madam Onyeka Onwenu.
