Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin Kingdom has replaced the suspended Enogie (Dukes) of the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms in Edo State by appointing Chief Emmanuel Iyase as the new Okao Eguae (Palace District Head) for both areas.
The suspension of Prince Owen Jackson Akenzuwa (Ologbo) and Chief D.E. Igiehon (Ehor), brought about the Iyase’s installation. Sixty nine other Dukes were also suspended for allegedly revolting against the Monarchy of the Benin Kingdom.
Iyase is the first Okae Eguea from the Palace and as such will control traditional leadership in the impacted region, working side by side with elders and administrators under the Oba’s rule.
Oba Ewuare II, cautioned the newly appointed Okao in a brief statement during Ekpomwen-abor (a ceremony of appreciation after conferment of Chieftaincy title at Ugha Ozolua axis in Oba Palace Benin City) to avoid corrupt practices that could either weaken the Oba’s rule or bring dishonor to the Dukedoms.
The Okao Eguae, members of his family and well wishers thanked the Oba and pledged to be of good conduct for the good of the people and general advancement of Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms.
