A fire broke out around 7 PM on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Queen Idia Hall of Residence, University of Benin, damaging a room. The incident, which occurred shortly after power was restored, was reportedly caused by a faulty electrical socket.
The collective efforts of the residents, porters, and firefighters helped to extinguish the fire. However, several belongings were lost in the incident, leaving the occupants of the affected room in shock.
This incident has raised concerns among residents about the need for electrical improvements in the halls of residence.
