The University of Benin Debate Society (UDS) is set to host an interfaculty debate event titled “WORD WAR I” on Saturday, April 19, 2025. The event will begin at 9 AM in the Basic Medical Sciences lecture theatre, which has a capacity of 500 attendees. This competition provides a platform for participants from various faculties to engage in a battle of words, furthering the association’s mission of developing efficient and competent public speakers.
The University of Benin Debate Society is an intellectual community dedicated to promoting critical thinking, debate skills, and public speaking among students. The key objectives of this event include building competent speakers through periodic training and practice debates, fostering intellectual discourse across the different departments and faculties of the University of Benin through partnerships, and creating a safe space for individuals who experience fear for public speaking.
Outstanding participants in the interfaculty debate will have the opportunity to win cash prizes, and there will also be a handover ceremony for the UDS.
Ultimately, this event offers numerous benefits, including academic and personal growth, enhanced campus culture, networking opportunities, and the potential for a lasting legacy.
