It’s that time again for mandates to be handed over to students representatives as the 2021 University of Benin ‘Students Union Election’ takes center stage on Friday September 24, 2021, at various polling units inside the main campus and another designated center in Ekenwan campus.

While it’s pertinent to know know that every Students (undergraduate) 200 level to finals have the right to vote as stipulated in Part IV, Section 6, Subsection d of the Students Union constitution, it’s as same important for students to know where and where to be, if they must be allowed to exercise their franchise and their votes be counted valid.

Just like the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC will have names pasted across polling units in every state prior any election, the Students Electoral Committee, ELECO also have their polling units mapped out for every voters. Unlike the larger society where you can vote at your backyard, the University of Benin’s is different.

This write up is to explain to you where you will be casting your vote;

POLLING UNITS
For students of Faculty of Art, the Tinubu Hall of residence known as ‘HALL 2’ common room is their polling unit

Students of Social Sciences will have Queen Idia hostel popularly known as ‘HALL 1’ common room as place where they will cast their votes.

They pride in calling themselves the ‘Mother Faculty’ and can boldy say anywherr that their ‘kano vote’ is sure. They are the students of Faculty of EDUCATION and their polling unit will be the popular BASEMENT.

Basic Medical students, Faculty of Agric and Pharmacy, the students union secretariat, JUNE 12 is their voting point

The only Faculty that produces the Attorney General, Faculty of Law will be sharing the Hall 5 with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.

Students of Medicine and Dentistry will be traveling to the Social Sciences TWIN LT to exercise their franchise

For the Faculty of Management Sciences, Aminu Kano hall of residence, ‘HALL 3’ will be ready to to host them for this year’s election.

For proximity and population purpose, the study of the Faculty of Engineering, who also glories in calling themselves the ‘Father Faculty’, the Uniben Staff School will be their place of vote casting on the election day.

The home of Salami, Physical Science and Life Science, the NDDC hall of residence will host them as it has always been hosting them on yearly basis.

Ekenwan Campus despite projecting 10% of the aspirants will also be witnessing voting as the Boys hostel’s Common Room will be prepared for the voting purpose.

With this, the students should find it easy to connect their respective polling units.

Guidelines For the Electiion
Students are implored to be patient when they get to their respective polling unit and not raise any unrest while they wait for the accreditation.

Students are advised to go to the polling unit with their school fees print out incase their names are not in the voters register even if they have paid their tuition fee for the session.

Just after that, you will be given ballot papers among them you will see the one which contains the candidates of your choice all you need to do is to tick against the name of the person you are voting for with a PEN. That is all.
