The University of Benin (UNIBEN) recently organised its Students’ Union Government (SUG) elections, witnessing significant engagement from the student body. The results reflect decisive victories for some of the aspirants, indicating a notable turnout that highlights the students’ enthusiasm for leadership.
Here are the highlights of aspirants and the number of votes received for the Presidential Race:
Agboola Israel Timilehin, who ran for the post of President, secured an impressive 8,992 votes. His fellow aspirant, Great Ose Okonewa, garnered 1,332 votes.
Vice Presidential Candidates:
In the race for the position of Vice President, Omotuemen Favour gained 3,846 votes, establishing a solid foothold in the administration. The other candidates, Okere Chiamaka Osamhegbe and Otaru Omoghene Lesley, trailed with 1,450 and 1,418 votes, respectively.
For the Directorial Positions:
The election results for various directorates are as follows:
– Director of Socials: Innocent Okhiulu led with 6,311 votes, while Vitalis Chiemeka Okekeonyeagba received 4,215 votes.
-Director of Sports: Offornedu Michael Emmanuel Osinachi emerged with 4,999 votes, while Sanni Arokheta secured 1,848 votes.
– Director of Finance: Edosa Emmanuel Osatohamwen garnered 2,133 votes.
– Director of Information and Publicity: Benedict A. Ojie received 2,450 votes.
– Director of Welfare Services: Ojealaro Humphrey Ogorchukwu gathered 1,991 votes.
– Assistant Secretary General: Onyekachi Nzekwue garnered 1,978 votes, showing healthy competition for the position.
– Secretary General: Lucky Michael Igbonomi received 2,046 votes.
– Attorney General: Onyekachi Monday Francis captured 2,111 votes.
The turnout for these elections indicates and showcases a vibrant student community eager and willing to participate in the governance of the institution.
