In a remarkable achievement, Comrade Blessing Iripia Alims, the first female Student Union Government (SUG) President of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has procured five buses to enhance student transportation within the campus.
This initiative aims to provide a stress-free commuting experience, addressing the longstanding mobility challenges faced by the student body. The transportation project commenced in August 2024 with a one-week free shuttle service, offering students convenient access to lecture halls and hostels. These buses operated across various points on campus, ensuring seamless movement without additional transportation costs.
Elected in June 2024, Comrade Alims made history as the first female SUG President since UNICAL’s establishment in 1975. A 300-level student of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, she has demonstrated academic excellence with an impressive CGPA of 4.75. She hails from Galen in Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Comrade Alims’ leadership embodies dedication, transparency, and innovation, setting a high standard for future student leaders at UNICAL. Her commitment to student welfare serves as an inspiration for subsequent SUG administrations.
