The Student Union Parliament of the University of Benin announced the suspension of the SUG President and the Financial Secretary on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, through an official memorandum.
According to the Parliament, Mr Bright Paul, the SUG President, and Ogagaohene Prosper Vwegba, the Financial Secretary, were suspended over alleged cases of financial misappropriation, fraud, and forgery involving Student Union funds amounting to ₦1,300,000. These actions are said to be in clear violation of the Student Union constitution and the ethical standards expected of elected representatives.
Furthermore, the Parliament stated that a thorough investigation into the allegations and the depth of the offences would be carried out to ensure fair hearing and guarantee transparency.
The accused persons are said to have been barred from office and directed to hand over all necessary documents pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Parliament concluded the memorandum by assuring that the outcome of the investigation would be clearly communicated to the University Management and the general student body.
