In a concerning incident on July 31, 2023, at 1:40 pm, in LT 2, a chair occupied by students awaiting the start of their next class suddenly broke due to its weakness. Fortunately, no students were injured in the incident, but the potential for harm was evident.

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Benin is now facing safety concerns as the integrity of its furniture and infrastructure comes into question. It has become apparent that certain elements like chairs and boards in the classrooms require urgent attention and repairs. These items are essential tools for both lecturers and students, and ensuring their stability is of paramount importance.

Alongside the chair incident, it has been discovered that a part of the ceiling in one of the classrooms is faulty, posing a risk of collapse. If left unaddressed, this could lead to severe injuries for students in the vicinity. As such, the university administration must prioritize inspections and repairs to mitigate any potential hazards.

The safety of students and faculty should be the top priority for any educational institution. It is imperative that the university takes immediate action to identify and rectify weak chairs, broken boards, and faulty infrastructure within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Regular maintenance and inspections must be conducted to ensure the learning environment is safe and conducive to academic excellence.

University authorities have been alerted to these issues, and students have expressed their concerns regarding the current state of the facilities. A collective effort from the administration, faculty, and students is required to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all.
