The parliamentary arm of the students union government, University Of Benin had met last Saturday, 15th May to perform their perogative duty as bestowed by the power of the constitution.

It would be recalled that is this first plenary convention of the semester after a 3 weeks break at the end of last academic semester.

Crucial among the business of the day was the consideration of 2019/2020 budget.

The budget deliberation and defence which held at the basement location had in attendance the RT honorable speaker of the 34th assembly, Benjamin Oyemwense, the Clark, RT Honorable Efe Eramus, Chief Whip, Honorable Edafe Collins, other principal officers and members of the Students’ Senate.

Meanwhile, the SUG President, Comrade Lotanna Benjamin who was unavoidably presently was ably represented by the vice president, Comrade Felicia Etope.

While addressing the assembly on behalf of the President shortly after the opening of the sitting at about 11am, the vice president, Comrade Felicia Etope briefed the honorable members of the house on the current state of the union while appreciating the overwhelming support of the lawmakers and students of the University Of Benin.

She also called on the Speaker and other legislatures to ensure a smooth approval of the 2019/2020 budget which she basically noted is very imperative for the fulfillment of electoral promises by the officials.

Responding, the speaker RT Honorable Benjamin Oyemwense, assured that his colleagues would work assiduously with the executive to actualize a free passage.

The budget presentation which commenced at about 12 noon on Saturday ended by 4pm with the senators appending the submitted proposals of the President, Vice President and other executive members.

In addition, the budget of the Parliamentarians and the Judiciary were also approved.

Present at the sitting were the Vice President, the attorney general, the Chief Justice of the supreme court, secretary general to the union among others.

The breakdown of the budget is as follows:

Office of the President – #11, 523, 600

Office of the Vice President – #9,363,000

Office of the Secretary General – #1,608,000

Office of the Chief Justice – #3, 017, 100

Office of the director of finance – #5,707,700

Office of the director of socials – #6,396,000

Office of the director of finance- #2,988,000

Office of the PRO – #1,125,000

Office of the attorney general – #1,933,000

Office of the Speaker – #4,854,500

Office of the Deputy speaker – #3,715,000

Office of the clerk -#2,203,000

Office of the Chief Whip – #1,775,000
