Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alleges that Peter Obi is already contemplating leaving the party.
Earlier in July, Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, joined other opposition politicians to establish the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) as a coalition party to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Less than two days after the launch, Obi publicly declared his 2027 presidential aspirations while holding the LP membership card.
However, Kachikwu asserts that Obi will not be permitted to contest the presidency on the ADC platform. He contends that the ADC structure is being manipulated to support Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambitions.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, the ADC chieftain, who has been accusing opposition politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of usurping his party, claimed that Obi intends to leave the coalition, recognizing that the ADC is structured to favor Atiku.
He said, “The whole ADC structure is being set up for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Since I’ve been raising concerns about what’s happening, we can see the real deal with the coalition. Now, even Mr. Peter Obi realizes that the whole thing was planned to support Atiku Abubakar. From our point of view, we’re seeing now that he’s looking for other ways to get ahead, and other people who want to run now realize that the coalition was just a way for Atiku Abubakar to achieve his goals.”
Kachikwu firmly asserts that the ADC will not be utilized to achieve Atiku’s presidential aspirations. He further emphasizes that the 2027 election will not accommodate what he refers to as “class exploitation” by political leaders.
He has pledged to actively oppose these politicians by ensuring that Nigerians are adequately informed and educated about their political power as citizens.
