The former Public Relations Officer of the Students Union Government, University of Benin, Mr Ehiabhi Goodnews has broken silence over the ongoing protest embarked by the students of the University of Benin.

“I am happy UNIBEN students are standing up for themselves today. To tackle the monster of today, revisit what happened in 2017 that led to our rustication from school.

“This is what we were trying to prevent from happening when they said the fee increment in 2017 won’t affect us but the students after us. When we engaged the management in a faceoff, some people called us trouble makers. Today, I believe, history have justified our actions in 2017.

“At the end of the day, I believe the people will win because the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
Mr Goodnews quoted on his social media handle.

The students of the University of Benin on Tuesday morning embarked on a peaceful agitation in order to press home their grievance over they described as inconsiderate hike in school fees.

The protest which witnessed massive turnout, grounded academic activities within the campus while the Lagos – Benin expressway remained shut down by the chanting students.

As of the time of filing this report, the students have vowed to disrupt any further activity in the school as they continue the protest until their demand is met.
