Having stated that academic activities would commence in earnest come Monday, February 1st, management of the University of Benin didn’t fail to re – emphasize its readiness in ensuring strict compliance to COVID-19 protocol.

This will include compulsory wearing of face mask, maintaining social distancing, adequate washing of hands with soap and water or rubbing with a sanitizer.

In order to mitigate the chances of spread of the dreaded virus across the campus, the University authority disclosed readiness to wield into online classes for students at all levels of the institution.

To ensure uncomprimised adherence to laid down directives in the war to curb spread of coronavirus, the leadership of University of Benin also constituted a surveillance team meant to enforce total obedience to set down rules of Covid-19.

Nevertheless, amidst all these arrangements, the reverse might likely be the case.

Following students resumption today, it was observed that there’s little or no recognition to the protocol.

A visit by campus correspondent across the school premises captured students and staffs going about their normal activity without retribute to the guideline.

Students were seen clustering and waiting to be checked into their various hall of residence without face mask and proper maintainance of social distancing.

Again, students preparing to take courses from the Center for Entrepreneurship Development were cited struggling to make payment at the University’s micro finance bank without observing the Covid-19 protocol.

A visit by our correspondent to various classes was no different case. Students were reportedly taking lessons in usual manner as against the rule of Covid-19 where it is expected that there should be water and soap at the entrance of the classes, wearing of face mask and at least 2metres social distance by the students.

Be it as it may, more students would be joining their colleagues in days to come, Whether, strict compliance to Covid-19 protocol would be enforced as earlier reaffirmed by the institution is yet to be seen.
