After a disappointing performance in the world cup qualifiers, Finidi George has stepped down from his role as Head coach of the Super Eagles.

Nigerians have been disappointed and heart broken after the Super eagles fail to top the group C for the World Cup qualifiers having accumulated 3 point from 5 games played sitting 5th in the group which is a surprise for a team that came runner up in the just concluded AFCON.

Finidi George who took over from jose peseiro after failing to win the AFCON with Nigeria having made a disappointing start to their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.

Finidi George was appointed on April 29,2024 as the right coach who will take the Super Eagles to 2026 World Cup but it didn’t seems to work out.
During Finidi George very brief tenure, he oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic, both in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
It is believed he chose to resign  after NFF decision to hire a foreign technical adviser.
