The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIBEN Chapter, has clarified that the national body of ASUU has not declared a strike action, contrary to the reports circulating in the media.

According to the UNIBEN Chapter Chairman, Dr. Ray Chikogu, the national leadership of ASUU, has not issued any directives instructing branches to commence on a strike action. He said, “ASUU National has not declared a strike.” This clarification follows the circulating news, suggesting that ASUU had declared a nationwide strike over unpaid salaries of June 2025 and unresolved issues with the Federal Government.

Although, it is rumoured that some universities like the University of Jos and University of Abuja, have withdrawn their services on the basis of the resolution of “No Pay, No Work” at the National Executive Council, these actions, however, does not reflect a coordinated national action.

Students and members of the university community are urged to disregard these reports as it is not an announcement from the ASUU National.
