Lagos State University (LASU) witnessed a historic achievement as Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf, a Law student, became the first student in the institution’s 40-year history to graduate with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. Yusuf’s remarkable accomplishment was recognized at the 26th convocation of LASU for the 2021/2022 set, where she emerged as the best graduating student.

During an interactive session at the prestigious 2023 edition of the Academic Excellence Initiative (AEI), Scholars Day, Yusuf humbly expressed her perspective on her exceptional achievement. She stated, “I don’t consider myself a genius. I believe geniuses are people who find studying very easy. They grasp whatever they are reading at a very quick pace. So, if that is the case, I really can’t say I’m a genius.”

Yusuf went on to express her gratitude to God Almighty for her success, attributing it to the manifestation of the belief that hard work truly pays off. Overcoming numerous obstacles and skepticism, she persevered in her pursuit of a 5.0 CGPA. Many people around her initially doubted the possibility of such an accomplishment, citing the technicalities inherent in studying Law. However, fueled by her self-motivation, Yusuf proved them wrong, and her first 5.0 GPA marked the turning point when they started recognizing the possibility.

The outstanding achievement of Aminat Yusuf did not go unnoticed by the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, who extended his congratulations to her. Governor Obaseki, speaking at the Government House in Benin on Monday, June 26, 2023, acknowledged Yusuf’s exceptional feat and offered her automatic employment as well as other forms of support. The Governor emphasized that Yusuf’s achievement made her a worthy ambassador of Edo State.

Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf’s journey and success serve as an inspiration to future generations, demonstrating the power of dedication, hard work, and self-motivation in overcoming challenges and achieving extraordinary results. Her record-breaking CGPA sets a new standard of academic excellence at Lagos State University and serves as a testament to her exceptional abilities and unwavering determination.

As Yusuf continues on her path, she undoubtedly carries the torch of excellence and will undoubtedly contribute significantly to her field, making a lasting impact as a distinguished legal professional
