The all-African military games are taking off at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja Nigeria. The AMGA is the second edition which commences on November 20th.
The African military Games is a multi-sport event for military athletes in Africa.
This event is supervised by the International Military Sports Council ( CISM), which is also supported by the Organisation of the military sport in Africa (OSMA).
The event was first hosted in Nairobi between 17 and 27 April 2002 and was tagged “friendship through sport.”
Thirty-two countries were in participation as 1562 athletes were participating.
Previously, in September, the OSMA inspection team came over to Nigeria to check and evaluate the sporting infrastructure to host the military games.
This year’s edition, happening live in Abuja, Nigeria, was opened by Vice President Honourable Kashim Shettima. This year, AMGA is tagged “Enhancing Military Cooperation Through Sports,” this year’s games aim to strengthen military solidarity across Africa, promote African cultural diversity, and foster unity among nations.
In the vice president’s opening speech, he welcomed the various participants to Abuja as he emphasized the event’s role in helping bridge gaps and showcasing African genuineness toward unity using sport as one of the means to achieve that while still stating that the event is more than just sport or competition but they highlight and symbolize the cooperative approach to security challenges happening regionally.
