As at approximately 2.00–3.00 p.m. on 14 February 2024, an accident was reported to have occurred along the Benin–Ore Expressway, Benin, Edo State.

According to an eyewitness account, the incident occurred when law enforcement officers were pursuing a suspected fraudster, popularly known by locals as a “Yahoo boy”, who was driving a 2022 GLK model vehicle.

The police reportedly chased the vehicle to the 19th Street junction, where the accident occurred. The suspect, who was attempting to evade arrest, was accompanied by his girlfriend in the vehicle. In the process of fleeing, he allegedly collided with a white Suzuki minibus.

The collision resulted in a fatal accident, as both vehicles sustained significant damage. One passenger in the Suzuki minibus was confirmed dead at the scene.

Furthermore, eyewitnesses stated that the police subsequently apprehended the suspect and took him to the station, leaving members of the community distressed and demanding justice for the deceased.

The police have since blocked all movement along the affected section of the road, resulting in heavy traffic congestion and widespread shock among members of the community.
