The Ejigbo area of Osun State has been thrown into confusion and mourning as a United States of America based lecturer and also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Richard Idowu has been shot dead.

This incident has been reported to have occurred between the times of 8:00pm and 8:30pm on Saturday, January 28, 2024 in the private residence of the Prince Eniola Oyeyode who is son to the Ogiyan of Ejigbo, Oba Omowonuola Oyeyode.
The Ogiyan marked his 50th coronation anniversary which Late Mr Richard Idowu participated in before he was called for a meeting in the Prince’s residence.

It was reported by an eyewitness that as the attendees left the venue of the meeting, gunshots were heard and Idowu’s leg was hit. The amount of blood lost and the lack of good health facility in Ejigbo led to his death.
It was said the man who shot at him was beaten to death.

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has ordered law enforcement agencies to immediately look into the incident.
This order was given through the spokesperson for the governor, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

According to the spokesperson, who gave the statement:
“The Governor who commiserates with the people of Ejigbo town directed law enforcement agencies to by investigate the remote and immediate causes of the incident and ensure that the law takes its cause. Mr Governor further called for pre-emptive action by the security agencies to prevent any possible counter-attacks or eruption of violence in the ancient town following the sad incident”
