It has been a controversial week in the United States presidential election race. The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, has declared her interest to run in the November presidential election following her endorsement by the US President, Joe Biden, who stepped down from the race.
President Joe Biden has been under intense pressure from party leaders and the public to step down due to speculations about his age and health concerns. The 81-year-old finally bowed to pressure and announced his decision on 21st July 2024 to withdraw from the race, saying it was in the interest of his party and the country.
Growing concerns ensued as to who would become the party (Democrat) nominee ahead of the November election. However, barely 24 hours after announcing his decision to step down, Biden endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris, as the party’s presidential candidate for the election.
Shortly after her endorsement, Harris stated in her speech that she would ensure all aggrieved Democrats are united and emerge victorious in the November presidential election.
