The management of the University of Ilorin, Kwara state, has deployed buses to transport staff and students to the campus. This is to cushion the effects of the high cost of transportation.
At the end of the 296th meeting of the institution’s senate on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, pointed out that the university management is aware of the cost of transportation and its effects. He said the institution has decided to deploy an additional bus, making it three in total, and make all three buses free for staff and students.
The three buses will convey students and staff to the campus from the university’s bus terminal at Tipper Garage, Tanke, by 7 am. They will also convey students and staff out of the campus at the close of work or classes by 4 pm every day.
Egbewole further explained that private commuter bus operators plying the university route had pledged not to charge exorbitant fares after negotiations with the university management. He also assured the students that the management would come up with more palliative measures to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.
