The University of Benin has released the Academic Calendar for the 2023/2024 academic session. The calendar, which outlines significant dates and events for both the first and second semesters, will provide students and the various faculties with a clear roadmap for the academic year.

According to the Calendar, registration for new students for the 2023/2024 academic session will commence on Monday, 18th March 2024, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for fresh faces at the university. Students will be welcomed into the halls of residence on Sunday, 21st April 2024, in anticipation of the upcoming academic activities.

Lectures will officially kick off on Monday, 22nd April 2024, alongside the continuation of online registration and physical clearance procedures for new students.

As is customary in the institution, the Matriculation ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, 10th May 2024, where new students will be formally inducted into the academic community. Following this, an orientation session will be conducted on Tuesday, 14th May 2024, to familiarise freshers with university life and resources.

As the semester progresses, the university will allocate time for revision from Monday, 22nd to Friday, 26th July 2024, ensuring students have ample opportunity to review their coursework before examinations commence.

Examinations will begin on Monday, 29th July 2024, starting with faculties such as Education, Engineering, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, and Physical Sciences. The rigorous assessment will continue into August, with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) examinations scheduled for Saturday, 3rd August 2024, followed by examinations in other faculties, schools, and institutes starting from Monday, 5th August 2024.

A brief respite will be granted to students as they conclude their General Studies (GST) examinations on Friday, 9th and Saturday, 10th August 2024, before proceeding on the end-of-semester break.

Looking ahead to the second semester, all students will be expected to return to the halls of residence on Sunday, 1st September 2024, in preparation for the commencement of lectures on Monday, 2nd September 2024. The academic calendar will maintain its rhythm with a dedicated revision period from Monday, 25th to Friday, 29th November 2024, paving the way for the upcoming examinations.

Examinations for various faculties will resume on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024, with the process culminating in the GST examinations on Saturday, 14th December 2024. Following this, students will be granted a well-deserved end-of-session break, allowing them to recharge and reflect on their academic journey.

It’s worth noting that the academic calendar will accommodate the El-del-kabir celebration on 17th and 18th June 2024, demonstrating the university’s commitment to respecting cultural and religious observances.
