The University of Benin has announced the observance of a public holiday on Wednesday, 27th September, 2023, in line with the Federal Government’s declaration to mark the 2023 Eid-el-Maulud celebration. This announcement was made in a circular addressed to the University community by the management in the late hours of Tuesday (today).
Eid-El-Maulud is a significant occasion for Muslim faithful worldwide, celebrating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). The University encourages all members of the community, especially Muslim faithful, to embrace the values of love, patience, tolerance, and perseverance, which are deeply rooted spiritual virtues, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet.
While the holiday is observed, the circular specifies that staff members on essential duties should report for duty as directed by their respective Heads of Departments. “As required, the University will observe the holiday in accordance with the Federal Government’s declaration. However, Staff on essential duties are to report for duty as directed by their Heads of Departments,” the circular read in part.
Furthermore, as a customary precaution, all staff are urged to secure their offices by properly locking all doors, switching off electrical appliances, and ensuring water taps and closets are closed before leaving for the holiday.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian I. Salami, along with the University Management, extends warm felicitations to Muslim Brothers and Sisters in the University of Benin and the entire University Community on this solemn celebration of Eid-el-Maulud. They wish everyone a peaceful holiday as they commemorate this important religious occasion.
