On Saturday, July 29th, 2023, the University of Benin Class Reps’ family held a historic hangout event, the first of its kind, at ASUU Hall, Ugbowo campus. The event, tagged “Affari Onorevoli” (a Spanish word which means Honorable Affair), was attended by class reps from across the fifteen faculties of the institution.

The event was graced by the SUG Director of Welfare, “Comrade Okoro Andrew,” popularly known as “Socrates.” The event was anchored by Mc De Wise from the Faculty of Physical Science and Mc Oma from the Faculty of Arts.

The event began with an opening prayer, followed by the coordinator of the Class Reps’ family and a Senator of the 36th assembly, Sen Baghira Momodu, giving the opening speech. Thereafter, the SUG Director of Welfare gave a keynote speech on leadership. In his words, “leadership is the ability to absorb pressure from different categories of people.” Comr Andrew urged class reps present to position themselves as influential and focus on influence more than majority. He also spoke about the challenges faced as the Director of Welfare and possible solutions, which can serve as an eye-opener to his successors. According to him, financial constraints were a major issue upon his assumption into office. He also emphasized the multiplicity and diverse nature of the office of welfare, making it more tasking and burdensome. In his final words, he proffered a solution, which is the creation of more offices like health and transport, etc., to supplement the office of the Director of Welfare.

The event featured special performances, health talks, karaoke, music, dance, and a giveaway session to cap an ecstatic and historic event.
