In a recent meeting, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), expressed her initial unawareness of Mr. Daniel Ehis’ Guinness World Record attempt to write continuously for 188 hours, equivalent to eight days.

This meeting, which took place on October 6, 2023, was attended by administrative members of the institution and members of the National Union of Campus Journalists. Mr. Timothy Ekpo, the coordinator of the Write-a-thon event, explained that he had submitted an event proposal to the Vice Chancellor’s office prior to the event’s commencement on October 1, 2023. He also highlighted some of the challenges they faced, including the need to sustain Mr. Daniel Ehis and power the generator used at the SUG secretariat for the event.

Mr. Tony, the Director of Students Affairs, provided a detailed update on Mr. Daniel Ehis’ progress. He reported that as of yesterday, Mr. Ehis had completed 12 books and was currently working on the 13th. It was emphasized that this Write-a-thon was an unprecedented endeavor, with Mr. Ehis being the first to attempt it.

The Vice Chancellor expressed her gratitude towards the event coordinators and the members of the press. She also made a commitment to support this initiative, announcing her intention to involve Dr. Kaiser William Etta, the Director of Health at UNICAL, in conducting regular check-ups on Mr. Ehis during the event.

Furthermore, the Vice Chancellor pledged to reimburse expenses incurred in a show of her support and promised to enhance the publicity of this remarkable event.
