UNIBEN VICE CHANCELLOR SETS NEW POLICY FOR THE 2024/2025 FIRST SEMESTER EXAM

BY GABRIELLA CHINWENDU AYIGBO

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, SAN, held an emergency online meeting with the provosts, deans and directors to discuss the preparations and arrangements to conduct the first-semester examination for the 2024/2025 session.

In a memo signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. O. B Osadolor, the various conclusions were publicised as announced by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). It was established that no student will be left out in the examination; both students who have paid their school charges and those yet to pay will be allowed to sit for the examination. It was stated that the CRPU-Generated attendance registers and the Exams and Records-generated registers will both be used for the examination.

It was also reiterated that the university has zero tolerance for examination misconduct and no form of examination misconduct will be condone.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the exams, it was established that the electricity distribution timetable will be adjusted to ensure that electricity is always made available at all examination centres. Additionally, examination invigilators are urged to be vigilant and also demand from students their means of identification(student ID), before writing any exam.

Departments are dissuaded from placing a levy for the issuance of ID cards and a quick refund should be made if there was a collection. The Provosts, Deans and Directors are also urged to publicise the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the exams, particularly the exam misconduct code on WhatsApp platforms for both students and staff to be fully aware and reminded.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Professor Asien were selected to lead the Examination Monitoring Committee to enable collective work and a smooth examination process.
