By Owobu Maureen

A geomatics survey has commenced at Site B of the University of Benin’s Ugbowo campus following the unveiling of development plans by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN.

Briefing members of Management, Staff, and Students, the Vice Chancellor explained that drones would be deployed for aerial assessment of the site and urged the university community not to be alarmed. He highlighted the importance of a proper action plan, citing the distortion of the master plan of Site A as a cautionary example.

Professor Omoregie, a former student of the university, reiterated his commitment to ensuring that further development follows due process. He also called on friends of the university to support efforts to expand infrastructure to Site B, emphasizing that this would help curb further encroachment on the site.

The Vice Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the university’s legal victories in all litigations related to the site.

The team of experts, led by Mr. Joseph Chidiac, is optimistic about completing the survey in less than a week. They will collaborate with professionals from the university’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences, who had earlier conducted a preliminary survey of the site.
