In a recent memo from Comr. Omoruyi Osasenaga Destiny, the Director of Welfare, Student Union Government (SUG), University of Benin, proactive steps were taken to address safety concerns related to cab services within the campus. One significant action taken was a collaborative effort with the head of shuttles to address issues between students and cab drivers. The committee led by the director engaged in a constructive dialogue, establishing agreed cab prices beneficial for both drivers and students.
The outlined terms and conditions for loading cabs across campus are as follows:
1. N150 per person with no additional charge for luggage.
2. Drivers are instructed not to reject passengers going to specific destinations within campus, including blocks of flats and Keystone.
3. Students are encouraged to board only cabs with yellow lamp numbers, as unregistered cabs cannot be held accountable. Registered cabs should always display their yellow lamp numbers.
4. Students and cab drivers are urged to maintain respectful and courteous behavior towards each other.
Furthermore, the Director of Welfare emphasizes the importance of students noting the cab number for reporting violations, retrieving forgotten belongings, and ensuring their overall safety. The provided contact (08157956792) serves as a channel for students to address concerns directly with the Director of Welfare.
With these measures in place, the SUG aims to enhance the overall campus transportation experience, promoting a harmonious relationship between students and cab drivers.
