In a memo released on Wednesday, 19 June 2024, the Students’ Union Electoral Commission acknowledged the distress and inconveniences caused by the ongoing power outage in the university environment, which have affected the welfare of students.
The Electoral Commission reported that the University of Benin has settled its outstanding debt with BEDC, excluding the recent increment, and the court has ordered BEDC to restore power pending further discussions.
The Students’ Union Electoral Commission announced that there has been a stable electricity supply on the Ekehuan campus since the restoration of power a week ago. The case is not the same for the Ugbowo campus, as there has yet to be a restoration of power. The Students’ Union Electoral Commission reported that they are working diligently to ensure the restoration of power on the Ugbowo campus.
The Students’ Union Electoral Commission has urged students to remain calm as they work diligently towards the restoration of power and a stable electricity supply in the university environment.
