The Supreme Parliament of the Finance Students Association of Nigeria (FINSAN), University of Benin Chapter, has issued a formal impeachment notice against the President of the Department of Finance, Erioluwayatoniunmi Ayomide. The notice, signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gideon O. Favour, and the Clerk, Hon. Evbuomwan Joy, accuses the President of gross misconduct, abuse of power, and failure to uphold the association’s constitution.
According to the memo, the President has consistently disregarded the decisions of the Supreme Parliament, taking independent decisions without consultation or approval. Additionally, the President is accused of mismanaging association funds and reportedly engaging in extortion of freshers’ school fees.
The President is further alleged to have violated the constitution by disregarding principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness. In response to these allegations, the Supreme Parliament has resolved to invoke Section 6 of the FINSAN constitution to proceed with impeachment and has proposed the appointment of an Electoral Committee or caretaker committee to oversee a transparent and fair leadership transition.
The memo emphasised the Parliament’s commitment to ensuring that the association’s reputation and operations are not compromised, stating that the Department of Finance Students Association will not be “brought down to mud.”
