Scott Ogunseri, a presidential candidate in the just concluded University of Benin SUG election has congratulated the newly elected Excos of the Student Union Government. This came on the day of their inauguration, 4 days after the SUG election held on 14th of February 2023. Scott lost for the second consecutive time in his bid to become the president of the school’s student union. He lost his first bid to Amadi Foster the outgoing SUG president.

The recent election conducted saw Scott losing to Nmonye Israel also known as Cyano in a slim victory that is less than 50 votes.
After the election results were released, Scott who was unsatisfied with the result swore to head to court to challenge the victory.

However, in a letter dated 18th March 2023, Scott Oguseri congratulated his opponent and stated that in the spirit of comradeship, he conceded victory and wished the Leora Excos the best in their administration.

In his letter to the newly elected Excos, Scott stated, “Let me heartily congratulate the Leora Excos on their victory in the just concluded SUG election. Indeed, the election has come and gone and I feel there is a sense in which we are all winners. Although, I had some reservations about some polling units and intended to blow a legal dust on it, I have however for the sake of our friendship and unity as Students’ Comrades, decided to sheath the legal sword”.

“My unalloyed gratitude goes to my team and thousands of University of Benin Students who reposed their trust in me, supported and stood by me throughout the election process, I am forever grateful to you all, may God bless you all”, he added.

“May I also thank our Vice Chancellor, Prof Mrs Lillian Imuetiyan Salami, for giving us the opportunity to hallowing us through our participation in SUG politics. I am also grateful to our Dean of Students, Prof Clement Ighodaro and the members of the Electoral Commission for their roles in this SUG election”, Scott stated.

“Let me sincerely and particularly congratulate my brother, my friend, Israel Nmonye (Cyano) on his emergence as the SUG President of the University of Benin. God bless University of Benin Students. God bless the Leora Executives”, he concluded.
