The Students Union Government of the University of Benin have debunked the news which have gone viral on Campus about the review and increment of the cost of transportation by the task force on shuttle and toll gate. In a memo released yesterday, the task force on shuttle and toll gate approved the increment of transportation fare of cabs and shuttle buses on campus alleging to have duly consulted all stakeholders. This is sequel to the subsidy removal on petrol and the subsequent hike in the price of petrol nationwide.

However, a counter memo released by the Leora executives of the UNIBEN SUG led by Nmoye Israel debunked the news, claiming the union’s consent was not sought before taking such decision. The union urged all commercial drivers to continue to operate under the previous rate. Moreso, a general meeting will take place on Monday June 26th 2023 to reach a better resolution.
