While students are grateful that tensions have been considerably low this semester, sparks indeed went off quite literally. On March 19, 2024, a huge fire took on the Hall 2 residence, claiming a room and the belongings of its residents.
Opinions have been given as regards the cause of this tragic event, but no official report has been released yet. Any rumours as to the wellbeing and safety of the victims of the unfortunate event were quelled by an official statement from the office of the SUG Public Relations Officer. He tampered with public unrest, stating that the female students affected by the incident were safe and sound and had been offered temporary accommodation at the SUG room in Hall 2.
Following that, he prompted all students to take any electrical or other issue to the tables of the SUG Executive and beseeched the student body to adhere to the school’s guidelines as regards the use of electronic appliances in the halls of residence.
Closing his statement with a promise to protect the interests of the student body and an encouragement for the ongoing examinations, the student body can now breathe easy and put this sordid event behind us. Going forward, let us remember to stay cautious, calm, and with our wits. And to all the sundry, good luck for the exams ahead.
