On Friday, 7th February 2025, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Evans Godstime, a student from the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Sciences.

In an official condolence message signed by the union’s President, Comr. Agboola Israel Timilehin, and Secretary-General, Comr. Lucky Michael Igbonomi, the SUG described Evans’ passing as a heartbreaking loss that has left the university community in mourning.

The statement highlighted the unity and determination Evans embodied, noting that despite the challenges she faced, she was surrounded by unwavering support until the very end. The union extended its condolences to her family, faculty, department, and fellow students, reassuring them of their continued support during this difficult time.

“Her memory will stay with us always,” the message read. “May we all find the strength to endure this pain, and may Evans Godstime’s soul rest in peace.”

The message was issued under the banner of the Rejuvenating Executives of the Students’ Union and included signatures from both the President and Secretary-General, reinforcing its authenticity.

Students and staff of the university have since expressed their grief and support for Evans’ loved ones. The phrase “Aluta Continua, Justa Costa, Victoria Acerta”, a rallying cry for perseverance and justice, was included in the statement as a reminder of the unity within the UNIBEN student community.

May her soul rest in peace.
