Following the recent increment in school fees by the management of the University of Benin, the students have embarked on a heavy protest leading to melt down of academic activities within the school premises.
Around 7:30am on Tuesday morning, students were cited converging at the campus main gate where they commenced the peaceful demonstration.

The activity which witnessed tremendous turn out of students of the University of Benin pitched a gridlock for commuters who plight the Lagos – Benin expressway.
Meanwhile, academic activities were disrupted when angry protesters stormed some of the lecture venues forcing the students to scamper for safety.
Our correspondents who were on the take off venue of the protest gathered that the students have decided to register their displeasure over what they regarded as inconsiderate hike in school fees by the institution’s leadership.
One of the protesters who spoke to our correspondent on basis of anonymity disclosed that #20,000 have been added to the original amount of school fees while the school authority has threatened to withdraw admission of students who fail to comply with the new policy by 17th September. He called on the school management to consider the economic situation of the country and be patient with the students.

However, the President of the students union government, Comrade Lottana Egwu Benjamin was able to speak with ACJ over the phone.
According to Comrade Lottana, there would be a hopeful meeting with the vice chancellor before the end of today in order to resolve the crises.
Nevertheless, the heavy protest has continued as students have vowed to barricade the main school entrance until the hike in school fees is reversed.
