In a comprehensive 5-page newsletter released on the 24th of September 2023, the Student Union Government (SUG) has released an update concerning the recent General Assembly meeting held between student representatives and the school administration held at about 4pm on the 23rd of September, 2023. During the meeting, the management cited economic challenges as the reason for proposing a tuition fee increase ranging from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000, primarily to cover the costs of providing electricity and other essential amenities.

Following extensive deliberations that spanned several hours, there was a concession from the management’s initial stance, resulting in a revised proposal of a ₦15,000 increase in tuition fees.

As the official school resumption date looms tomorrow, the response of the University of Benin’s student body to this revised fee increment remains uncertain. It’s worth noting that, as of the time of preparing this report, the school portal has not yet been reopened for students to process their fee payments.
