On April 8, 2025, the University of Benin announced that officials from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) will be holding an important briefing session for graduating, final year, and penultimate year students. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Akin Deko Auditorium, beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m.
This announcement was made in an official memorandum released by the Student Affairs Division and signed by the Dean of Students, Professor C.A. Ighodaro. Addressed to the Provost, Deans, and Directors of the university, the memo calls on the heads of departments and faculties to mobilize their students for full participation in the event.
According to the memo, the briefing will provide students with first-hand information about the NYSC program and the mobilization process, which is important for all eligible students preparing to transition into national service.
“The purpose of this memo is to request Provost, Deans, and Directors to mobilize their students to attend the briefing,” the memo stated, emphasizing the importance of the meeting for students who are about to complete or are nearing the completion of their academic programs.
The briefing promises to be an informative event aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and expectations surrounding the NYSC scheme — a mandatory national service program for Nigerian graduates.
Students are advised to attend the session on time and come prepared with any questions they may have about the mobilization and service year process.
