Following the shutdown of academic activities at the University of Benin and the consequent notice of vacation issued to students in the halls of residence, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has intervened in the matter with the aim of finding a resolution to the quagmire.

In a signed memo by the chairman of NANS, Comrade Ehis Daniel, he urged students to remain calm and stay back in their hostels, having received assurance from the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami, of her cooperation towards resolving the situation.

Following extensive deliberations with the Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, Prof. Clement Ighodaro, an order to stay the execution of the vacation notice has been issued. Consequently, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funsho Adegboye, has assured the students of their safety and support under his command’s leadership.

The NANS chairman assured the students of his continued interaction with the school authorities with a view to resolving the issue amicably.
