The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has recently reviewed the school fees for the upcoming academic session (2022/2023) for new students. The revised fees, which have been pegged at #115,000 for Science students and #105,000 for non-Science students, mark a significant adjustment from the initially proposed amounts. The University had previously announced a fee structure of #190,000 and #170,000 for Science and non-Science students, respectively, up from #73,400 and #69,900 for Science and non-Science students respectively, as was charged in the 2021/2022 academic session.

The decision to reduce the school fees came after widespread public outcry and criticism of the initial fee structure. Many students and their families expressed concerns about the affordability and accessibility of education, particularly in the current economic climate. The University management, after considering these complaints, rearranged a review of the fees in response to the growing discontent among the students.

While the revised fees reflect a notable reduction, some students remain unsatisfied and believe that further adjustments should be made. Student representatives have argued that the reduced fees are still burdensome for many families and could potentially hinder the enrollment of deserving students. The UNIBEN community is calling on the University management to consider additional reductions to ensure equitable access to education.

While fresh students anticipate further changes, the management, in a statement made available on the university website, waeup.uniben.edu, noted that all students admitted before the 2022/2023 Session will continue to pay their earlier stated respective charges.
