In a remarkable display of student-centered leadership, the outgoing Student Union Government of the University of Benin, fondly called the Rejuvenating Executives, have rounded off their tenure with a detailed report highlighting their exceptional achievements across academics, welfare, infrastructure, and student engagement.

The Outgoing Executive council of the Student Union Government, University of Benin also known as the Rejuvenating Executives led by Agboola Israel Timilehin held a meeting at the William Obong Secretariat, June 12 Building, on July 25.

The executives gathered to reflect on their achievements and gave a good report on it as representatives of the students of the University of Benin. These achievements were not only tied to the academic wellbeing of students but they also embodied every aspect of student’s livelihood such as good infrastructure, academic fairness, welfare and so on.

This union’s aim was to restore the hope and expectation of students which they did, ensuring a dutiful service to the students of the University. The achievements were included in a report delivered by the rejuvenating executives during the meeting.

The report covered the executive’s fulfillment of a widespread praise session which was tagged Uniben Praise 1.0, a successful celebration of Ramadan for Muslim students and collaboration of wonderful events such as the ‘Save the Girl Child’ which the union partnered with the First Lady of Edo State’s Office, DTH audition hosting, Cowbell talent and award show and many others. These activities were categorized under events, programs and collaboration.

Also, the improvements made on the infrastructures were not left out, the steady power supply in the hostels, the quick renovation of car park, supervision of the installation of solar panels in Hall 1 and Hall 2 respectively, and so on.

In addition, the academic wellbeing of the students is another aspect these representatives highlighted in their report. They ensured the quick response of ambulance emergency system within the school premises, negotiated hostel fees to affordable prices, opposed the CBT based test in all faculties, advocated for exam extension to enhance proper preparation amongst students, supervised hostel toilets renovation and so on.

Projects and security initiatives were inculcated, the Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie presidential Hall of Fame at June 12 secretariat was established, the executives collaborated with the University’s security to have the Most Peaceful Administrations, 20,000 copies of customized quality notebooks for students were launched, this is just a little of what the project and security initiative birthed.

Developments were also made in the school’s sport activities, the first 5-aside which involved other sports besides football held in the tenure of these executives. They ensured the repair of the University’s synthetic pitch. Uniben students were given the opportunity to represent the school at the NANS exchange program which happened in Ghana. Students were privileged to participate in NELFUND stakeholders’ engagement session in Abuja as well as the Save the Girl Child collaboration amongst other achievements.

As their tenure comes to an end, the Rejuvenating Executives leave behind a legacy of impactful leadership, student-focused initiatives, and transformative projects. Their achievements have set a new standard for student governance at UNIBEN, inspiring future leaders to continue the work of building a more inclusive, innovative, and empowered campus community.
