The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, has debunked a fake memo circulating online regarding the resumption of academic activities.
The memo, which claimed to be from the university administration, stated that the shutdown would be lifted on July 4, 2024, and academic activities would resume on August 10, 2024. However, Dr. Ehanire has confirmed that the memo is a fabrication and did not originate from her office.
In a statement, Dr. Ehanire said, “…was sent to me today and I am merely debunking it…”
The university remains shut down indefinitely, and students and faculty members are advised to disregard the fake memo. The administration has not made any official announcement regarding resumption dates.
The debunking of the memo has caused confusion and frustration among students who were hoping for a return to classes soon. The university community remains in limbo, awaiting an official update from the administration.
